Each week we've met online to continue planning and getting things in readiness for the first workshop. Sally has done a big shop for usb drives, stationery, clocks and watches for the course participants so that they can become more conscious of time telling and keeping within time restraints during the program.
There's been lots of cultural commitments and community hardships over the past couple of weeks. We've been waiting to see how things will go.Working in remote indigenous communities often means things have to stop for a time while family and community responsibilities are taken care of.
We've found some career instruments that will be helpful. Some are using vocational images and others a rating questions with straight forward English phrases that can be done online or face to face. Our language facilitator has spent a week in town and done some professional development with Georgina from TAFEand Libby from Complete Personnel. Her role is a lot clearer now and we're looking forward to her support with Anangu learners as they identify their transferable skills and begin to speak up about them in an interview context. Valerie has made a JIng video in language, Pitjantjatjara, to show people how to log into the Moodle site. We plan to make some more 'howtos' in language.
Registrations are growing in both Amata and Indulkana and Eula and Tina have been doing LLN assessments and needs identified. As part of the project an e-tutor will be online several afternoons a week to give literacy/numeracy support. This is a pilot based on the 'Your Tutor' online learning support model. This will, however, not rely on written communication and will take place in an Elluminate/Bb session room where the whiteboard, audio and web can be accessed to develop literacy, numeracy and communication skills.
Staff in the various communities across the Lands are contributing to our resources and links-much appreciated. We're heading to the Lands for the week beginning 19th March for our first face to face workshop. We'll introduce the online platforms to learners, most of whom have not been involved in online delivery.
